According to Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees have re-signed Aroldis Chapman to a 5 yr/ $86 million deal making him the highest payed reliever in the game, this coming a few days after Mark Melancon had set the record when he signed to the San Francisco Giants.
This is great for the Yankees considering the fact that the team traded him last year to the World Champion Chicago Cubs for some prospects, including their number one prospect SS Gleyber Torres. So basically the Yankees took their best prospect and still managed to retain what they gave up to the Cubs. I think this will solidify our bullpen and put Betances back at the set up role where it seems like he is the most comfortable. Yes the price was a bit high but I still think it was something that was going to be needed anyway. Now lets see if Brian Cashman can focus on the starting pitching, which we all know the Yankees need right now.
